Lady of Knock Feis

This weekend was the Lady of Knock feis in Kutztown, PA. All the stages were in one huge room that also held the vendors. It was big enough for everyone to camp AND there was tons of space to warm up. Another highlight was the Dippin Dots vendor and the table selling water right next to the stages. Results were fast and awards were nice cups with M&M's in them! The stages had a great sound but were a little bouncy and there were some slips on my stage, but it felt great to me! All in all, it… Continue

DeNogla Feis

The DeNogla feis was this Saturday in Kenilworth, NJ. I danced in the last group of the day, Prelims 18+. I am so lucky I get to dance with such a nice bunch of people. Everyone is so nice and we all say good luck to each other when we leave the stage. That being said, I didn't dance my best. I totally died at the end of my hornpipe! I was getting close to the end of my half step and my legs felt like lead so they kind of got all caught up under me. It didn't help that the stage was this really… Continue

Should CLRG regulate skirt lengths?

My instinct is to respond "Yes! We should protect the children from indecently exposing themselves in public!"

However much I would like to contribute to the decency of what we wear when we dance, there is no possible way to enforce any rule on skirt lengths. These are my reasons.

Firstly, there is no way to accurately measure skirt lengths. Kneeling on the floor and measuring up to the bottom of the skirt (ie 4" above the knee) would be the only plausible way. However, mothers across the glob… Continue

Maeve wig

I just got a Maeve wig from Emerald Key! I've had the Nicole for the past year but I bought it before I began feising so I thought it would make me look like the younger girls in novice. Turns out I got out of novice in one feis, and was in prelims a few months after that! My little Nicole wig now seems way too small and childish with the tight shiny curls so I got myself a Maeve. The only problem is that now it seems gigantic! I know I just have to get used to it but I'm afraid I won't feel con… Continue

I'm going to see Riverdance!

For Valentine's day, my husband got me tickets to see Riverdance in Philly! I've seen LOTD (once in the first row) twice but I've never seed RD. So I'm super excited to be seeing it from the 4th row during its last North American tour :) April can't come fast enough!

Oh I love HIPAA... rules my life at the moment. No one likes to hear from me about it because I am the pro-active task master who finds all the things they shouldn't be doing. Someone has to be the "bad cop" :) It's good to know too, as all of my health information is in the same system, so in a way I'm protecting my own interests as well.

Hope the hornpipe practicing is going well. I've just finished learning the reel, so all that's left is the set :)

Hi, Yes, all is well here thank you, hope it is with you too......You must be destined to keep 'bumping into' Bethany's old dress....I still love that dress and when I watch video of Bethany dancing in it I am reminded of just how much I loved it...I do hope the little girl who has it now is enjoying the dress....I have recently put a video on my page called 'What a Difference' and it includes Beth in it....Have a great day, and please let me know if you 'bump' into it again...lol...xx

SJ/HP are my favorites too! I used to love when the official dance choice was SJ/HP or Reel/TJ, except when I had to do reel/TJ, which are not my favorites, reel most of all... I'm not particularly peppy or bouncy, so it requires a lot of effort to make it look "exciting".

I have heard many great reviews about Patricia Murphy, especially since it is right near the beach! It's the same weekend as a feis in Canada, so unfortunately I've never been. I try to come to the NY/NJ area for a feis every 2 months, since I don't see any of my other competitors until I get to majors, I live in the Irish dance "boonies".

Good luck on your boards! I work in a hospital (IT admin and HIPAA compliance analyst) and marvel and the medical staff and their dedication; I especially admire that you can work long hours and compete!

Aww thanks a lot :) The dancing really did not go well at all. I had a huge collision with the other girl in my treble jig. The judges wrote me off after that, since there were so many fabulous dancers. I was very upset, which then turned into anger side stage for round 2, and somehow... I pumped out the Slip Jig of my life (I was shocked to get a 10th place mark from a judge)... which made me feel much better :) Not enough for a recall, but I ended on a positive note!

All and all, it was a really fun time, especially hanging with all the Mid-Atlantic girls after in the Marriott and watching some of the competitions. Time to keep the positive from Philly and work for the next competition :)

Do you have a lot of competitions coming up? Changing to reel/HP before Nashville proves to be a challenge!

I know, right? I know a few friends who were not able to part with their dresses and have kept them. Most will put them in a shadow box.. but I guess I'd rather see another person enjoy it then have it schlepped around from move to move with no one to appreciate it. Every dress needs a new home :)

Well, I don't have a new dress just yet. I think they are shipping it to me today, so I should have it by next week at this time, which is very exciting! I still have to order "bling" and spend an afternoon in the basement with some glue, stones, and tweezers :)

I'm hoping to sell my current dress after I dance at a feis this weekend. As much as I love it and will get a bit sniffly when it does go, I really need to sell it so I don't have to eat crackers and water for the next two weeks. The sum charged on my credit card yesterday almost put it at its limit, whoops. I anticipated it and prepared in advance, but it is always good to keep that card nice and clean.

Hope you had a fun St. Patrick's Day!

No problem! I'm pondering using two donuts now.. I'll look like Marie Antoinette but at least the wig will be nice and high ;)

The social side of dancing makes it even more exciting :) I hope you enjoy the feisanna then-you'll be so busy. I haven't started feisin yet! I hope to by sometime in May-need to perfect my dances first :) xx
